If you haven't started at the beginning of the Bittersweet Farm series, it's well worth your time to go back and start there. It will only enhance the depth of the characters and make you utterly fall in love with these books. The characters are so realistic I could almost see myself having conversations with them, after having taken a lesson! Each book takes you a step or two further into their lives and Available is no exception. Dealing with real relationships, situations, and circumstances found on a horse farm and in the show pen, this book delivers! I think you will enjoy this book. I did. Following the life and times of people that work and enjoy horses.
Yet another strong entry in one of the best equestrian fiction series around. It is obvious the author has great familiarity with the horse world, but she manages to keeps the humans funny and very real. Most unusually, she demonstrates respect for the individuality of the horses while avoiding romanticizing them. I also love how she advocates so strongly for good classical riding and horsemanship. It is absolutely worth reading from the beginning as it is so much fun following the growth of the characters.
. I have Unlimited, which I would recommend all avid readers look into, and rarely buy books anymore. However, I now own this entire series because these books are addicting. Buyer beware. If you start you will probably be into buying them all.
The author once again manages to incorporate real world horse business issues in her fictional world without a "ripped from the headlines" feel. Some interesting character and plot developments in this installment - Talia is growing up and finding her purpose and Teche is finding out that there are things his money can't buy. As always, the horse details feel exactly right. My only complaint is that I wish this installment were longer or that we didn't have to wait so long for the next one.
The characters seem like old friends to me now- both the people and the horses.
I enjoy the developing stories. I identify with most of the situations. The horse and riding parts seem very correct, and I appreciate that a variety of English disciplines are showcased, including dressage, eventing, hunting, and trail riding. Horses are allowed to be horses, and are turned out and ridden outside. Some of the characters show, some do not. A nice balance. A very positive, gentle book that inspires me to try to be better as a person, a rider,and a horse owner. Teaches that it takes hard work to be successful. I highly recommend.
This is a series not to be missed out on. Each book just gets better as you move further into the lives of the characters who could be your neighbor. This series deals with real life situations, relationships and daily life on a horse farm and the rivalry of the show circuits of different disciplines.
If you have not read any of these books start from the beginning so you don't miss anything.
This is a series for adults as well as young adults.
I love this author's books. ANY of them, ALL of them. I like her characters and her prose. I like the fact that as a horseman you can read this series and everything she talks about or equipment she mentions is real. True to a knowledgeable professional rider. I have come to really enjoy her characters, Talia, Greer, Jules, Lockie Cameron and the bitingly tricky Victoria; the mother of Greer. Bittersweet Farm is full of interesting characters. The young girls who ride the ponies and take lessons from Talia are a delight. The "brand" of riding that both Talia and Lockie teach is what riding should be about. Your welfare and the horses welfare. It needs to be harmony between rider and mount in real life so to have an author who writes their stories that way is a great thing. The young people who love animals and who read these are getting good life lessons along with a great story line. Wish I had a huge extended group of people in my life that I could be passing these on to!! I know Barbara has a "real" life along with her writing but these just can't come out fast enough to suit me.. LOL
I would highly recommend her other series too. "Bitter Apple". Not about horses but music and mostly family. Extremely well done and enjoyable.
